Overview, urban planning and heritage
As a planning consultant with the City of Montreal, Élaine was able to utilize her training in law and urban planning. Over the past decade, as part of the heritage team, she has taken a particular interest in the requalification of heritage buildings using open and collective approaches rooted in a sense of place (Open heritage).
In 2017, she helped organize the international symposium Montréal transitoire. For the city, she coordinated the Young Project, the first multi-actor pilot project to be carried out in a municipal building. She was responsible for developing the municipal transitional urban planning program and, in this context, coordinated the development of open-planning tools and their testing in four pilot projects in vacant municipal buildings. Her interest in the concept of the commons led her to participate in missions to Boston and Barcelona, focusing on the digital commons and the urban commons respectively. She has been invited to speak at various forums.
She was recognized as one of the McConnell Foundation's 12 Lessons to Learn in Canada in 2018.
At the same time, Élaine has cultivated an interest in epistemology, symbolic languages and the imaginary. She has been practicing meditation and non-duality yoga for many years. Today, her living, complex understanding of the world is influenced by her many experiences.
